Bai Fenghua looked at Li Xue and the others with a half-smile before asking Yu Yuntian, "Sect Leader Junior Brother, what brings you to my humble abode today?"
Yu Yuntian said nothing, simply tossing several jade bottles to Bai Fenghua. "Senior Brother Fenghua, have a look at these!"
Bai Fenghua caught the bottles and poured out a pill. As a high-level alchemist, he could see their extraordinary quality at a glance. His phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, their perfect fox-like curve adding a touch of bewitching charm that made everyone’s hearts skip a beat. It was too much; his beauty was simply monstrous. Overwhelmed, the others collectively decided it was safer to stare at the floor as if counting ants.
"Not bad. Tempered with Yang spiritual energy, and more than half are of top-grade quality," Bai Fenghua remarked. Being a high-level alchemist, he immediately deduced how they had been crafted.
Yu Yuntian beamed. "Senior Brother Fenghua, I’ve brought you some promising talent!" He pointed toward Li Xue and Li Lin.
Only then did Bai Fenghua truly observe the two. These juniors had impressive composure; they had managed to recover quickly from the natural allure of a Nascent Soul cultivator. This suggested not only a firm will but also a significant level of mental cultivation.
"Eh?" Bai Fenghua’s eyes narrowed again. He reached out, and the Bai family jade pendant hanging from Li Xue’s neck flew into his hand. Li Xue was startled. *Could they truly be from the same Bai family?*
Bai Fenghua squeezed a drop of essence blood from his fingertip onto the jade pendant. It was absorbed instantly. A look of joy spread across his face, and a brilliant smile bloomed.
To the onlookers, it felt as if a hundred flowers had suddenly blossomed in the spring sun. It was a beauty that could sink fish and bring down birds, eclipse the moon and shame the flowers—a beauty so radiant there was nowhere to hide. Everyone instinctively steadied their minds and averted their gazes.
"Is this your jade pendant?" Bai Fenghua asked gently.
"Daoist Master, this was given to me by a friend from the Bai family. He said the Bai ancestors once produced a Great Luo Celestial Immortal, a fact known to many great sects. He thought carrying it might be of help," Li Xue answered honestly.
"Haha! Indeed! The ancestor of the Bai family was Bai Sha Luo Tian, the head of the Great Luo Celestial Immortals. With this, no one will dare bully you!" Bai Fenghua laughed heartily.
"Could there actually be a branch of the Bai family on a tiny place like Mangyun Planet?" Yu Yuntian seemed to recall something and asked Li Xue, "Your Purple Orioles... they wouldn't happen to be from the Bai family on Mangyun, would they?"
"What? Purple Orioles?" This time, Bai Fenghua’s beautiful eyes widened. He stared at Li Xue and demanded, "Purple Orioles of the Feng-Luan clan? Summon them for me to see!"
Li Xue obediently summoned Zi Feng. With a crisp cry, the bird appeared in the hall. Seeing the Purple Oriole, Bai Fenghua was visibly moved. He murmured to himself, "So it is the branch of the Luan-Tamers. Excellent, truly excellent!"
"Little girl, tell this old man everything about the Bai family over there," Bai Fenghua said warmly.
Li Xue held nothing back, describing the Bai family in as much detail as possible. Finally, she added, "Daoist Master, currently the Bai family on Mangyun Planet is guarded only by Daoist Master Ruihua. If a Soul Transformation cultivator from the outside world were to go there, wouldn't it be very dangerous?"
At this, not only Bai Fenghua but even Yu Yuntian could no longer sit still.
They immediately began to deliberate, making no effort to exclude Li Xue and her companions. They discussed how to send people to Mangyun Planet to establish contact. In the end, they decided that the Yuxuan Sect would dispatch three elders from the Bai lineage to Mangyun Planet.
Li Xue was relieved. Three Nascent Soul elders was a good start. At the very least, Ji Rufeng wouldn't have to stay guarded on Mangyun Planet after he formed his Core, and perhaps Daoist Master Ruihua could even come out to travel.
Bai Fenghua was extremely satisfied with Li Xue and Li Lin. His insights as a high-level alchemist proved invaluable to the mother and son. He had originally intended to take them as disciples, but since they already belonged to a sect, he had to let the idea go.
However, since they were now Guest Elders of the Yuxuan Sect—and thus part of the sect—and shared a connection with the Bai family, Bai Fenghua held nothing back. He began teaching them the art of refining high-level pills with great dedication.
Li Lin was in his element, following Bai Fenghua to study high-level alchemy. Li Xue, however, wanted to pay a visit to the Master Refiner, Yu Nanqing. Accompanied by Yu Nanshan, she arrived at Daoist Master Nanqing’s refining workshop.
Yu Nanqing looked quite young, with thick eyebrows and large eyes that gave him a very honest and simple appearance. He was currently in his refining room. The courtyard was cluttered and messy, clearly not having been tidied in a long time.
Yu Nanshan explained, "Uncle-Master Nanqing dislikes crowds. His courtyard is mostly used to store materials, and the disciples from the Miscellaneous Affairs Hall don't dare come in to clean without permission, so it looks a bit chaotic."
Li Xue understood. Many researchers and technicians had eccentric habits; it was perfectly normal.
"Uncle-Master Nanqing, you have a guest!" Yu Nanshan called out from the courtyard.
"Nanshan, what are you doing running over here?" Yu Nanqing emerged from the workshop.
"Uncle-Master, this is our new Guest Elder. She is skilled in alchemy and stays at Uncle-Master Fenghua’s pill courtyard. She has a Dharma treasure that needs re-refining using an Archaic Refining Method!" Knowing Yu Nanqing’s interests, Yu Nanshan got straight to the point.
"An Archaic Refining Method!" A sharp light flashed in Yu Nanqing’s eyes. He turned to Li Xue with great interest. "What kind of method? Tell me about it."
Li Xue respectfully handed the jade slip containing the Archaic Refining Method to Yu Nanqing. As his divine sense swept through it, his eyes sparkled repeatedly. "And your Dharma treasure?"
Li Xue summoned the Five Elements Shuttle. A burst of five-colored light filled the courtyard, creating a dazzling display.
Yu Nanqing took the shuttle and examined it closely. He nodded one moment and shook his head the next, finally sighing. "What a pity."
"Daoist Master, can it not be used?" Li Xue asked worriedly.
"It can be used, but it’s a pity for this shuttle. This shuttle is truly a 'chicken rib'—useless to keep but a shame to discard. Sigh, what a pity!" Yu Nanqing sighed again.
Neither Li Xue nor Yu Nanshan understood what he was lamenting, but since he said it could be used, they both relaxed.
"What materials are you missing?" Yu Nanqing asked.
Li Xue blushed slightly. "I only have two: Crimson Abyss Stone and Heaven-Quenching Wood. I don't have the others yet."
"Heaven-Quenching Wood?" Yu Nanqing murmured the name, clearly unfamiliar with it. After a moment of thought, he said, "Archaic names often differ from modern ones. I will check the archives; perhaps I’ll find something there."
"Then I thank you, Daoist Master!" Li Xue was overjoyed. She was truly out of her depth when it came to refining, and the names of the materials alone were enough to give her a headache.
