The Tier 3 Bee King

Chapter 47

Soon after Li Lin finished his meditation, the six of them resumed their formation, searching the area as they cleaned up the battlefield. The Black Bee Forest was home to Jade Support Grass, one of the indispensable and highly precious primary ingredients for Foundation Establishment Pills. Li Xue and the others had already sensed the aura of the grass when suddenly, a piercing *screech* echoed through the air. The sound was so sharp it made their blood and qi churn violently. Yiyi, being only at the seventh level of Qi Condensation, was hit the hardest and spat out a mouthful of blood. "Not good! A Tier 3 beast! Steady your minds and activate your maximum defenses!" Yun Mingxuan shouted. Li Xue quickly pressed a pill into Yiyi’s mouth. "Meditate and recover, quickly!" she urged, before slapping a defense talisman onto the girl. The others were pale as they frantically activated various defensive talismans and artifacts, looking as though they were facing a mortal enemy. A Tier 3 beast was equivalent to a cultivator at the Foundation Establishment stage. Such creatures were rare in the Chuyun Secret Realm, as they were usually cleared out by Foundation Establishment cultivators before anyone else entered. Li Xue steadied her mind as her Wood Soul Bell vibrated, instinctively protecting her. Seeing everyone else using talismans, she pulled several mid-grade talismans from her storage bag and applied them to herself. Before she had left, Daoist Yuhong had given her a dozen of them, fearing she might encounter danger. Yiyi went even further, pulling out a thick stack and handing several to everyone. The sight of so many mid-grade talismans eased the group's tension slightly. A mid-grade talisman could withstand a full-strength strike from a Foundation Establishment cultivator, though it could only do so once. "Sister Li, Yiyi, watch yourselves! Don't get caught in the crossfire!" Yu Ming warned. Moments later, a Black Bee King the size of a large basin appeared before them. It was clearly enraged; more than half of its swarm had been wiped out. It immediately unleashed a spray of venom that rained down across the sky. Light flashed from their artifacts as everyone activated their defenses. Li Xue pushed the Five Elements Flying Shuttle’s defensive power to its limit, which, combined with several layers of talismans, kept the venom from touching her. Before the Bee King could make another move, Yun Mingxuan and Yu Ming lunged forward with their flying swords. Li Lin followed suit, summoning his cauldron and casting a series of hand seals. Thick, toxic smoke billowed out; even if it couldn't kill the Bee King outright, it would at least weaken it. Ji Rufeng unleashed his sword array as well. His Ice Sword Array was formidable, enough to make even a newly promoted Foundation Establishment cultivator wary. The Bee King, driven to a frenzy, shook its entire body, the sheer force of its aura sending the three men flying. At that moment, the toxic smoke rose, and with a point of Li Lin’s finger, it surged toward the Bee King. Sensing danger, the creature tried to dodge, but smoke was pervasive. Despite the Bee King’s incredible speed, it was momentarily enveloped by a thin veil of mist, slowing its movements. The other three seized the opening to strike again, their flying swords raining down beams of sword light. Behind the blades followed a barrage of every spell they could muster—fireballs, ice spikes, and more. However, a Tier 3 beast was not so easily defeated. It quickly recovered and let out another series of harsh screeches. The sound waves actually blocked the incoming spells and sword light, while simultaneously launching a mental assault on the group. Yun Mingxuan, Yu Ming, and Ji Rufeng bore the brunt of it; not only were they hit by the backlash of their own spells, but their minds were also shaken. They crashed to the ground, coughing up blood. It was only thanks to the numerous defense talismans they wore that they weren't more severely injured. Seeing this, Li Xue’s heart tightened. She cast out her Sky-Soaring Cord to bind the Bee King and directed her flying shuttle to attack. Li Lin also unleashed his Cloud-Turning Whip, striking out with a move called "Falling Leaves." The two of them hoped to buy the others some time. The Bee King, however, was dismissive of these seemingly weak attacks and flapped its wings to meet them head-on. "Buzz-skree!" The Bee King let out a pained cry. Translucent wing fragments scattered through the air as a layer of its right wing was shredded into pieces. While it was reeling from the pain, the Sky-Soaring Cord lashed out again. This pushed the Bee King over the edge, and it prepared to launch the ultimate attack of a Tier 3 beast. Yiyi watched the scene with mounting anxiety. She knew that even if she used her Purple Silk, it wouldn't help, and she didn't know what else to do. Meanwhile, Li Lin slapped a few more talismans onto himself and charged forward with his cauldron, prepared to risk his life to protect Li Xue while facing the Bee King. Suddenly, a spark of inspiration hit Yiyi. She frantically pulled out a whole stack of mid-grade attack talismans and threw them all at once. *BOOM!* A deafening explosion shook the very heavens and earth, making the ground tremble violently. Li Lin was knocked to the ground by the shockwave, while Li Xue was sent flying. The others were thrown back, coughing up even more blood. When the dust settled, they saw a massive crater where the Bee King had been. The creature itself had vanished without a trace. Yiyi was terrified by the display. She hadn't realized attack talismans possessed such terrifying power. Why had she thrown so many? It was frightening. Ji Rufeng hurried over to help Li Xue up and check her condition. Fortunately, her injuries weren't severe. Nearby, Yu Ming helped Li Lin over, and Yun Mingxuan stumbled back toward the group. "Yiyi... were those mid-grade talismans?" Yun Mingxuan asked, his heart still pounding with lingering fear. "I think... I threw about a dozen," Yiyi whispered guiltily. The group was momentarily speechless, staring up at the sky. Being such a spendthrift really was a double-edged sword; the power was immense, but while it had annihilated the enemy, it had nearly taken out the allies as well.
