The Fire Realm

Chapter 64

Within the Dream Manor, Li Xue and Yu Ming sat cross-legged before the small cottage, regulating their breathing. They had been attempting to modify the Realm to activate its fire-attribute functions, but every effort had fallen short. There was no helping it; Li Xue’s spiritual roots were predominantly metal, with fire making up only a small fraction, while Yu Ming lacked a fire root entirely. "If we cannot activate the fire function within the next three to five years, I fear the spiritual energy here will begin to deplete," Yu Ming sighed, looking at the spirit herbs in the fields, which were noticeably slowing in their growth. "Let us search the archives again to see if there are any other methods," Li Xue replied helplessly. They had already been trying for over half a year. Yu Ming remained silent for a moment. Then, as if reaching a decision, he looked at Li Xue and said, "What if we let Xiao Lin come in and try?" Li Xue was startled at first, then felt a surge of joy. In truth, she had considered this long ago, but the Realm ultimately belonged to Yu Ming; she was merely a guest. If Yu Ming did not suggest it himself, she would never have brought it up. "Xiao Lin has a single spiritual root. Will he be able to enter?" Li Xue asked worriedly. "He is your blood relative. If you first establish a Kinship Contract, you should have no trouble bringing him inside," Yu Ming explained. Li Xue understood immediately. She could bring her Purple Oriole inside because of their spirit beast contract. After a moment of thought, she said, "I will give it a try. If it doesn't work, I won't let Xiao Lin know about this place." Yu Ming nodded with a smile. Li Xue returned to Chonghua Palace, pushed open the doors to her cultivation cave, and went to find Li Lin. "Mother, you’ve finished your seclusion!" Li Lin was delighted to see her. "Yes. Come here, Xiao Lin, let me look at you. Have you made any progress these past six months?" Li Xue pulled him close to examine him. Her son had truly grown up; he was now a full head taller than her. Li Xue felt a deep sense of pride. "Xiao Lin, let us sign a Kinship Contract. Though we are mother and son, a contract will make things more secure," Li Xue said. Li Lin asked somewhat suspiciously, "A Kinship Contract? What for?" "Don't ask questions yet. Just sign it first." Li Xue explained the method of establishing the contract. Although Li Lin didn't know what his mother was planning, he knew she had her reasons, so he followed her instructions to seal the bond. In truth, powerful cultivators had no need for such contracts, as many secret arts could be performed through blood ties alone, but given their low cultivation levels, they had to follow the formal procedure. Li Xue took Li Lin’s hand with one of hers while the other traced several points in the air, drawing a formation. A ripple of spatial energy followed, instantly enveloping them both. When the scene shifted, they were standing within the Dream Manor. Li Lin stared in shock at the scenery before him and at his senior brother, Yu Ming, who was supposed to be in seclusion. Yu Ming smiled and said, "Junior Brother, welcome to the Dream Manor." It took Li Lin a long while to recover his wits. He muttered the name strangely to himself, "Dream Manor?" Then, his lips twitched as he glanced at Li Xue. He thought to himself that his mother must have chosen the name; he seemed to recall hearing her mention something like it when he was a child. Li Xue was overjoyed. The fact that Li Lin could enter the Realm meant he could hide here if he ever encountered danger, giving him an extra layer of protection for his life. She then explained the origin of the Realm in detail and why she had brought him there. Li Lin listened intently. When she finished, he turned to Yu Ming and asked, "Senior Brother, may I see the true form of your Realm?" Yu Ming nodded and quickly manifested the Realm's original form in the air. It was an ancient, cup-shaped object surrounded by various runes that rotated slowly. After a ripple of energy, the runes vanished to reveal the physical artifact. Li Xue saw that it looked like an ordinary cup, though it was her first time seeing it clearly; the surface was etched with numerous intricate lines. A sharp light flashed in Li Lin’s eyes. He reached into his storage bracelet and pulled something out. Li Xue and Yu Ming stared—it was a ring-shaped object. The patterns upon it were remarkably similar to those on Yu Ming’s Realm. Both of their eyes lit up simultaneously. "This is the method for the Realm to recognize its master. Xiao Lin, give it a try," Yu Ming said, handing Li Lin a jade slip. Li Lin was elated. He had possessed this item for a long time, but after failing to understand it when he first acquired it, he had left it forgotten in a corner of his storage bracelet. It took Li Lin ten days to complete the blood-recognition and refine the Realm. When he finally opened his eyes, he looked at Li Xue and Yu Ming with a peculiar expression. "How was it? Was it successful?" Li Xue asked with concern. "It was successful, but..." Li Lin shook his head and said helplessly, "My Realm is incomplete. It only has a fire attribute; it is meant specifically for alchemy and weapon forging." | Chinese | English | Notes/Explanation | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | 亲契 | Kinship Contract | A formal spiritual bond established between blood relatives to facilitate certain techniques. | | 单灵根 | Single spiritual root | A rare and high-quality cultivation talent consisting of only one element. | | 梦幻庄园 | Dream Manor | The name Li Xue gave to the pocket dimension/Realm. | | 储物镯 | Storage bracelet | A spatial artifact worn on the wrist for storing items. |
