The Mark Beneath the Flower

Chapter 2

“We’ll go buy some things first. See you later.” Yu Tianwu and the other two quickly left together to shop for daily necessities, while Li Zi stayed behind with the excuse, “I still have something to do.” She smiled as she saw them off, then slowly closed the door. In her heart, she counted down. “Three… two… one…” Explosion. “Who the hell is your brother?! I don’t have a sister!” The man who had been silent behind her suddenly hurled the pillow in his hand violently to the ground the moment the door shut. His eyes were red, his breathing heavy. He glared at Li Zi with anger. When she didn’t respond, he opened his mouth to curse again. “Who’s your brother? I—” Another profanity almost escaped, but he seemed to remember something and forcibly swallowed it back. Stiffly, he forced out: “I’m not your brother. I’m not.” There was a trace of grievance mixed in his voice—barely audible—but Li Zi caught it immediately. She smiled bitterly inside, though her face remained calm as she walked toward him. “I like this pillow very much. And I only brought one. How am I supposed to sleep tonight if you throw it?” She picked up the pillow from the floor, dusting it off as she spoke lightly. “Damn, what’s that got to do with me?!” Li Zhenting was speechless. His anger faltered instantly. I’m still angry, and she’s worried about her pillow? “I told you I don’t like you swearing.” She pointed out his mistake again in a casual tone, making the veins on his forehead bulge. “You don’t like this about me, don’t like that about me. You mess with me every day, then say I’m your brother. What the hell do you mean?!” “…Didn’t you enjoy it too?” “…” Seeing Li Zi’s indifferent expression, the tightly stretched string inside Li Zhenting finally snapped. He rushed forward and pressed her against the table. His left hand moved as if to grab her throat—fierce in appearance, yet trembling. “Li Zi, are you trying to go back on your word? Do you regret being with me?” “There are so many outstanding omegas at Zhennan University. And the good bodies you like. You’ve been tempted, haven’t you?” “You got tired of me already, didn’t you?” “I’m telling you, enjoy my ass! Your technique is terrible! I’m not even an omega. All I feel is pain!” “You—don’t move—mmph!” Li Zi, who had let him vent until now, suddenly darkened her expression. With a swift hook of her leg, she flipped him over, pinned his wrists, and pressed close against his back. Like a lion seizing prey, she bit down on the back of his neck, controlling him instantly. His struggling body went limp immediately, like a cat caught at its weak point. A sharp sensation shot down his spine, forcing his toes to curl. “Ah… bite more gently,” he said softly. “So you finally said what you’ve been holding in, hm? It was uncomfortable keeping it in, wasn’t it?” “What beta would have glands reacting like yours?” “And what omega could possibly suit my taste better than your body?” “…Hmm? Xiao Ting.” Feeling her release him, Li Zhenting pushed himself up and muttered, “How many times have I told you? Don’t call me that.” “Why not?” Li Zi asked knowingly. She lifted his tank top, revealing long, elegant muscle lines marked with deep red traces. Her hand rested on his narrow waist, her fingers tracing lightly at the dip of his lower back. His body stiffened. He was a beta, naturally less sensitive—but earlier that morning, he had clung to her persistently until she agreed to let him follow her here. His waist, overused already, could hardly bear further stimulation. He quickly turned around and braced himself with his hands behind him, his legs between them. “Don’t touch. It’s sore.” He thought he had protected himself—but instead exposed the place Li Zi loved most. She stared at the tattoo on the left side of his chest. It was a flower. The branch extended from his shoulder, the single bloom opening beneath his left chest, its petals white. Yet against skin marked with countless faint traces, the flower appeared mottled red. Originally a pear blossom, it somehow resembled a peach blossom instead. It was her favorite place. She brushed over it gently. “…So beautiful,” she murmured. His chest tingled. He didn’t resist. Instead, he felt secretly pleased. Of course my body wasn’t built for nothing. He didn’t realize he always compared his beta body—honed through years of training—to omegas. It was easier than thinking about other realities: education, family background, his career. Those thoughts only made him uneasy. So he clung to what he could control. If she was captivated by his body, he could feel secure. “…Do you want to?” he whispered near her ear. “I put your equipment in the cabinet.” “You still can?” She raised an eyebrow. “Who was the one complaining earlier?” His face heated at the memory, but he stubbornly lifted his chin. “So what?” “So what?” Her eyes darkened. “Li Zhenting. Don’t provoke me.” “How am I provoking you? I’m telling the truth! I’m perfectly fine. This morning I was going easy on you.” Though he was already retreating inwardly, his pride wouldn’t let him back down. She let out a soft, cold laugh. Moments later, the fabric covering him was stripped away, and his legs were pinned helplessly. His legs were beautiful—flawless compared to the scarred upper half of his body. Smooth skin, long calves, powerful thighs. Strong, yet now completely restrained. … Time seemed to stretch endlessly. Warm sunset light slowly filled the once-cold room. “Have you been eating more lately? You feel heavier.” “I… have I gained weight?” “Don’t worry. I can carry two of you.” Seeing his genuine concern, she stopped teasing him. She knew well his anxiety about his physique. Years ago, before they became lovers, she had casually praised an actor’s body on a poster. He said nothing. But for the next month, he went to the gym every single day, turning his already impressive abs into an eight-pack—then deliberately lifting his shirt in front of her as if by accident. It was both ridiculous and endearing. Just as they lingered there, footsteps sounded outside the door. Their roommates were back. Li Zhenting jumped off her immediately. Fortunately, Li Zi reacted quickly and cut the sensory connection of the device. Even so, the sudden disconnection made her gasp sharply. “Li Zhenting!” There was no time. Within thirty seconds, he dressed himself, opened the window for air, loosened a strap on her body and tossed it into the blanket, then casually sat on the bed as if nothing had happened. Leaving Li Zi standing there, speechless. With an alpha’s senses, she had noticed the roommates’ approach long ago. But he hadn’t realized. She had wanted him to finish properly first, but the young man stood up awkwardly and stammered, “Well… I’ve tidied everything for you. I’ll head back now.” And fled. Under her roommates’ teasing gazes, Li Zi smiled helplessly and said: “Yes. He’s my boyfriend.”
