A Sudden Kiss in the Snow

Chapter 8

“What are you blathering about? Have you been drinking?” After a long silence, a low male voice finally muttered a response from the other end of the line. “Brother Li, where exactly are we going… and why is your face so red?” Standing at the entrance of the high-speed rail station, wrapped tightly against the biting wind and snow, Liu Yan exhaled a cloud of white mist. He pointed at Li Zhenting’s face in surprise and shouted over the wind. Li Zhenting shot him a glare, took two steps forward, and then asked with forced composure into the phone, “Did you drink? How much? Hurry up and send me the address.” “Um… I don’t know. A bottle? Half a bottle? I’m hanging up now, see you in a bit.” “See you in a bit.” Li Zhenting tucked his phone away and said, “Let’s get a taxi.” Liu Yan chirped, “You got it!” Li Zi hung up the phone but didn’t head back inside immediately; it was simply too noisy in there, she thought. After sending her location, she switched to their chat history and silently scrolled up. As she read through their messages, a small smile played on her lips. It seemed she really hadn't replied to him much lately, nor had they spoken on the phone. No wonder he had shown up without warning. However, Li Zhenting’s reaction now was much better than it used to be. She couldn't help but recall that when they first started dating, if she didn't reply or couldn't be reached within half an hour, he would have climbed over a back-alley wall just to find her. Despite always insisting he was a "real man," he could be more prone to insecurity in a relationship than many female Omegas. She wasn't the type of person who liked being glued to her phone to reply to messages, and there were times in the past when she had felt a bit exasperated by it. But now… she could understand. Thinking of something else, Li Zi’s finger gently brushed over Li Zhenting’s profile picture. It was a photo of him holding a Golden Retriever; his head was tilted back as the dog licked his chin, caught in a moment of trying and failing to dodge the affection. She had taken that photo. It would be wonderful if they could just keep living this peaceful life forever. “Classmate Li, you left your coat inside. Since you didn't come back for a while, I brought it out for you.” A male voice snapped her out of her reverie. Li Zi turned around to find the Omega who had been trying to talk to her in the private room. Her overcoat was draped over his arm. She took the garment and said politely, “Thank you.” The Omega seemed a bit nervous, his gaze flickering back and forth. Li Zi watched as he crossed his hands awkwardly, looking like he wanted to say something but didn't quite dare. For some reason, his silhouette overlapped for a moment with the person she had just been thinking about. Softening her heart, she decided to give him an opening. “You mentioned you’re in the German Department, right?” The Omega nodded in pleasant surprise, his cute features instantly brightening. “Yes! My name is Li Changbai. We share the same classroom for our Marxist Philosophy and English lectures.” “I see. I suppose I was too focused on the professors to notice.” “It’s okay. I know you’re a very serious student. The professors all love calling on you to answer questions,” Li Changbai said with a suppressed chuckle. “Ah… yes. It’s quite a struggle,” Li Zi nodded slightly, her expression turning a bit wry. After all, no one really wants to be the "star student" that professors always pick on in a university lecture. As the conversation became more natural, Li Changbai blinked nervously and pulled out his phone. “Could I add you on WeChat? Maybe I could ask you for help if I have any study questions in the future?” It was a rather flimsy excuse. Just as Li Zi was about to speak, a familiar voice rang out from behind her. “What are you two doing?” *Well,* she thought, *no need to find an excuse now.* “Who is he? And what are you doing standing at the door like an idiot? Put your clothes on. Can’t you see it’s snowing?” “Even if your Alpha constitution is good, you still need to wear clothes. Or are you just stupid?” The questions fired off like cannonballs. Clearly, the young master was still in a foul mood. Li Zi took the opportunity to hand him the coat and said softly, “You’re right. I’ve been waiting for you so long I’m practically frozen stiff. Take some responsibility and help me put it on.” Li Zhenting was a sucker for this. After all, waiting for Li Zi to act spoiled was usually about as likely as him suddenly becoming a top-tier scholar. He followed her lead as she raised her arms, sliding the coat onto her. Then, he reached his hands around her waist to tie the belt securely. Watching their intimate interaction, Li Changbai realized the nature of their relationship and instinctively pulled his phone back. “You haven't introduced me yet. Who is this?” Li Zhenting took Li Zi’s cold hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Didn't I say Tianwu invited me to a gathering? This is a classmate from the Foreign Languages College. I stepped out to take your call and left my coat inside; he was kind enough to bring it out for me.” Li Zi explained the situation in a single sentence, making the boundaries very clear. “I see. Thanks, classmate.” Li Zhenting turned and thanked Li Changbai, his declaration of "territory" perfectly clear. Li Changbai waved his hands frantically, saying it was nothing. “Alright, since you’re here, you probably haven't eaten yet, right? Let’s go inside and let Tianwu know, then we can go grab hot pot. There’s a place near the school that’s pretty good.” Li Zi tucked her hand further into Li Zhenting’s sleeve. “Okay.” Li Zhenting tightened his grip on her hand through the fabric. “Sister Li Zi! Brother! Don’t forget about me!” Liu Yan, who had been standing silently in the corner the whole time, weakly raised his hand. “Oh? Xiao Liu came too? Then come along with us.” Li Zi finally noticed him, nodding with a smile and beckoning him over. “Thank you, Sister Li Zi!” *Ah, compared to Brother Li, who forgets his bros the moment he sees his partner, Sister Li Zi is truly an angel,* Liu Yan thought, shedding two imaginary lines of tears. “They were just singing earlier; I don’t know what they’re up to now,” Li Zi chatted as she led Li Zhenting by the hand. It had been about a month since they last saw each other. The man hadn't changed much, though he seemed a bit thinner. At the same time, Li Zhenting was wondering if she had been studying too hard lately. She looked a bit pale. “Sister Li Zi, is it this one? Room 114?” Liu Yan pointed to the door on the right. “Yes, just open it.” He confidently pushed the door open. He had barely stepped half a foot inside when a kiss, carrying a faint scent of alcohol, was pressed onto his lips. Liu Yan froze on the spot. Li Zi: “...” Li Zhenting: “??????” Coming back to his senses, Liu Yan stared stiffly at the woman in front of him. The person who had just stolen his first kiss was stunningly beautiful, with soft curly hair, bold red lips, and a knitted maxi dress that hugged her perfect curves. But no matter how you looked at it, this was clearly an Alpha! After kissing him, the woman narrowed her almond-shaped eyes and sized him up with a confused look. Suddenly, she performed a gentlemanly bow, reached out a hand, and said: “Hello, my name is Yu Tianwu. Since this is our first meeting, might I be so bold as to ask for your contact information?” Seeing that Liu Yan was still dazed, she winked and gave him a radiant smile. “In short—it was love at first sight!”
