I turned around to find my roommate standing beside the operating table, his expression cold and stern. I had no idea when he’d arrived. His gaze swept over Ren Xing, and with a casual flick of his hand, he sent the officer flying into the door. "You again."
"It’s not like that! I asked him for help. I’m the one who doesn’t want it; it has nothing to do with him!"
My roommate’s shoulder gave a neurotic twitch, his eyes locking onto Ren Xing. "He is lying for you."
With that, he began walking toward Ren Xing, who was pinned against the wall. Ren Xing looked miserable—he was in the same state I’d seen my roommate in at Jin Mu’s house. Blood leaked from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth as if he were in unbearable pain. I could even hear the sound of bones snapping all over his body. If this continued, he was definitely going to be killed. I wanted to tell my roommate to stop, but in the next instant, Ren Xing was slammed into the ground like a ripe watermelon. With a wet *splat*, he burst! His blood and gore splattered everywhere! I was horrified! I’m pregnant, for God’s sake! I was absolutely traumatized!
Then, my roommate made a gesture. Ren Xing’s flesh and blood on the floor began to be squeezed and mangled by an invisible pressure, decaying and emitting a plume of hot steam. The process was incredibly fast, like a time-lapse in a documentary. Before long, they had inexplicably turned into a puddle of thick, pitch-black liquid...
I felt completely sick...
"Liu Wukong."
My roommate stopped and turned back to look at me.
"You actually killed someone right in front of me. And you turned him into... crude oil."
"He was trying to kill my son in front of me."
We glared at each other, and I found myself speechless. Finally, I mechanically climbed down from the operating table and put my clothes back on.
"Where are you going?"
I just wanted to get away from him and that puddle that used to be Ren Xing.
He grabbed my hand. "Why are you so unfair to me? Just because I look different from you?"
Sensing my hesitation, he walked over to the wall and pushed the minute hand of the hanging clock forward by a large notch. In an instant, I heard Ren Xing’s groans coming from behind me. I was stunned! I turned around and saw him sitting against the wall, clutching his chest. Master Yi also let out a ragged gasp, scrambling up against the wall with an expression that suggested he was scared to death.
My roommate glanced at Ren Xing.
Ren Xing coughed and waved his hand dismissively. "I won't do it again. Just don't turn me into oil anymore. The pressure was too high; I couldn't take it..."
My roommate turned me back to face him. "Let’s talk about us."
My mind was a mess. This guy actually reset time to settle things?! How annoying! Using cheats like that is just too much! "I don’t want your child because both you and Jin Mu said that the thing in my belly will kill you in the future. I can’t take that risk."
"You never asked me," my roommate said, sounding annoyed.
"You said it yourself! I thought it was an accident!"
My roommate shook his head. "That’s not what I meant."
"Fine, then let me ask you: Who am I? What was our relationship in the past? What was your purpose in tricking me into bed? Is my end going to be the same as Chun Xiao’s? And is this insane little thing in my belly really going to kill you in the future?"
My roommate’s mouth hung open slightly, but he didn't speak.
My anger flared, and I started speaking without thinking. "I hate you like this. I don't want to have a child with you; I can't stand it. Liu Wukong, I like you, but I can't stand this."
He was the type who wouldn't say a word even if you hit him with a stick three times; it really made me feel uneasy. Moreover, I didn't want such a bizarre next generation—not even a little bit. Killing people before even being born? I couldn't afford to raise that.
As I walked outside, my roommate called out for me to wait. I ignored him and crossed the street on my own. But he kept calling from behind me: "You like me, so how can you hate me and not want the child? It doesn't make sense. I don't understand; can you explain it to me?" I was starting to lose it. This was so embarrassing, right in the middle of the street, and I’m a guy. I was about to turn around and tell him to stop shouting and catch up when I saw him leap out from the green belt to dash across the road. By the time I screamed, it was too late! An oil tanker truck plowed right into my roommate and ran him over! Even the driver slamming on the brakes was useless! My roommate’s head ended up under the wheels, and his body was still twitching!
I felt completely sick. What the hell was going on?! That prophecy... it couldn't be that he died in a car accident because I wanted to abort his son and he was chasing after me, right?! That’s not what it meant, surely?! This kind of death isn't mythical at all; it’s pure melodramatic trash, the kind only Lu Daoshi likes to read!
The young girls standing around me were scared shitless, screaming like panicked quails. Because I knew my roommate was something of a big deal, even though the scene was violent and bloody, I managed to stay relatively calm as his pregnant "family member." The cars on the road had all stopped. Some people were calling 120, others ran straight to Ren Xing’s station to report it. The tanker driver stared at my roommate’s still-twitching body, looking completely dazed.
I jogged over and pushed through the crowd. "Make way, make way, I'm his boyfriend, make way..."
When I got within twenty meters of him, I heard the driver’s hoarse, frantic roar: "Run! Run away!"
After he shouted, the onlookers who were closer also started screaming and running away. Those of us in the back had no idea what was happening and kept walking forward in a daze. When I reached the middle of the road, I finally understood why.
My roommate had stood up!
The idiot didn't realize his head had been flattened! He even dusted off his clothes with a calm expression.
Holy shit, you’re covered in blood! Your entire skull is gone! Your brains are on the ground like smashed tofu, and a passing bicycle just ran over them! One of your eyeballs was crushed, and the other is hanging out of the socket, bouncing around! Your entire jaw is completely dislocated and crooked! Liu Wukong, wake up!
After dusting his clothes, he seemed a bit puzzled by why there was so much blood on him. He turned his nearly severed head, looking here and there, until he saw me and started walking my way.
I was frozen to the spot.
Suddenly, I felt incredibly sad.
My roommate had been crushed by a truck, and he didn't even know he’d turned into a monster.
And I realized that I had no way to overcome the deep-seated fear of the "other" within my heart.
I really wanted to wait for him to reach me and tell him to fix himself up. If he couldn't fix it, the worst I could do was take him to South Korea for surgery.
But I couldn't take it. I stood there for ten seconds, staring at his face, then turned and walked away.
But at that moment, some idiot nearby suddenly turned heroic. He picked up a brick and threw it at my roommate. "Zombie! Kill it! Kill the zombie!"
A group of people actually stopped and turned back, intending to finish off my roommate!
Motherfucker, I was instantly enraged. I looked around and saw a beer bottle in the bicycle basket of a middle-aged woman nearby. I snatched the bottle and lunged forward like a mad dog! I smashed it right into that guy’s face. Dammit, so what if my man is ugly? It’s none of your business! If I’m scared and you’re scared, fine—at worst, we all just turn and run. But you actually planned to counter-kill him? What happened to you! Tell me! Just because I’m a pregnant family member, does that mean I’m dead to you?! Even if my roommate is dead, does he not have human rights anymore?!
Three minutes. In just three minutes, I knocked down five people. A Penta Kill—do you know what that means? Even if I’m a "fucking sissy," I’m a fucking sissy like the wind, you hear me?! I stood in the middle of the crowd, brandishing the beer bottle, and roared, "Who else?!" At that moment, I was practically God-like! Give me another beer bottle, and I’d even dare to turn around and beat my roommate too, believe it or not.
Of course, I was just talking. Beating one's husband isn't a good habit, after all. All you housewives take note: if you pick up a rolling pin later, don't say I taught you. Besides, my husband’s situation is a bit special; soloing him would be quite difficult. After all, he’s an epic-level boss, isn't he? And finally—even if I heroically slaughtered my way to the heavens, I still didn't dare look back at my roommate. That would really, really diminish my feelings for him. It can't be helped; it's just human nature.
Just then, the police cars arrived. Things were getting a bit serious. Leading the way was Ren Xing, limping along. I really felt sorry for him. I’d asked him to help with an abortion, which turned into a homicide, then he got beaten into "petroleum" by my roommate, and finally, I pulled off a Penta Kill right in front of the police station. What a concept—I was the ultimate "pig teammate." So, with my back to my roommate, I did a blind grab, took his hand, and ran. We ran a long way before ducking into a small alley. With my back still turned, I said, "Brother Liu, fix your head."
I heard a rustling sound from behind me, like a kitten washing its face.
"Is it fixed?"
"It's fixed." My roommate’s voice sounded amused, which was a bit strange.
I turned around and nearly pissed myself. "Brother Liu, why did you make yourself look like Zhang Litian?"
He smiled slightly. "The person you grabbed in the crowd just now was me, Ye Xiao."
Holy shit, we were clearly acting in a suspenseful, supernatural horror myth, so how did it suddenly turn into *Meteor Garden*? Tell me!
I quickly shielded my chest. "Cut it out. My roommate just had his head crushed by a regular oil tanker; that kind of damage is like a tickle to him. When he catches up, you’re dead meat. You’re not getting my heart!"
Zhang Litian shook his head. "I don't need your heart anymore."
"You expect me to believe that?!"
Zhang Litian shook his head again. I felt that today’s Zhang Litian was far too serious. Usually, he was a grinning chuunibyou, and this was making me uncomfortable. "I have many ways to escape. As for you, this might be your only chance to get away from him."
I turned my head away in shame and indignation. "As long as my roommate is still handsome, I’ll still love him. You don't need to try and drive a wedge between us. I’m a person of principle."
"That’s not what you told me back then." Seeing that I wanted to run, Zhang Litian pinned me against the wall. "Do you really not remember who released us from the Abyss? And who summoned us here?"
I was startled.
Given the typical tropes of this kind of story, it had to be...
"Lu Daoshi!"
In an instant, Zhang Litian’s eyes widened, his face practically screaming "FFFFFFFFuck you." "When exactly are you going to remember? We are risking our lives for you."
With that, he vanished, and my roommate arrived.
My roommate still looked like death warmed over! Hunched back, walking slowly, brainless, smelling strongly of blood—enough to make anyone vomit. Seeing me, he dragged his broken left leg and lunged at me like a dog! I knew exactly what he wanted to do just by looking at his resentful, solitary eye! A "Zombie Punishment Play.avi" in a deserted alley in broad daylight! Why did he have to treat me like this just because we had a fight?! Dammit, he scared me so much I thought my water was going to break! Thinking it over, I realized no one was likely to save me. In a moment of desperation, I plopped down on the ground, hugged my knees, and buried my head to start crying. I didn't believe it—I didn't believe he could still shove his face in front of mine like this! My field of vision was perfectly safe, perfectly dark, and absolutely shielded from mental attacks!
